About the Rex

Who We Are

So… tell me about Christus Rex.”  It is a familiar phrase we hear when we first meet new friends and start building a new relationship.  How can we tell the story of Christus Rex in a concise, engaging, and invitational way? Christus Rex is a community of promise, purpose, and hope. Our mission is:

  • Centered in worship
  • Engaging Justice
  • Expanding Minds
  • Building Community

Christus Rex is a campus ministry of the ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) who gathers as a community of faith with young adults and community members on the campus of the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND.

Come for worship that is encouraging, uplifting and challenging. The messages are relevant and students are always a part of worship leadership. Come and meet our Campus Ministers and the people that call this their church on campus.

Come as you are! Even if you think you don’t fit in at church, check us out. This is a church that welcomes everyone – no exceptions, no fine print, just open and inviting.

Christus Rex is an inclusive community and a safe place for LGBTQIA+.  Since 2014 we have been designated in the National Lutheran church as a Reconciling in Christ Community – a community that cares about being welcome and affirming to all people, and continues to be committed to the work of anti-racism.

Come and see for yourself why students have been calling Christus Rex their home away from home for 75 years.

  • We live in God’s promise, Christ’s purpose, and the Spirit’s hope. We celebrate Word and Sacrament in Baptism and Communion, a place to hear God’s promise.
  • We are called to be people of justice and peace, servicing our global neighbors, living in Christ’s purpose in our world.
  • We are a community of hope, led by the Spirit, believing that in promise, purpose, and hope God is making all things new in our world and in our midst.

Christus Rex is a place where you can bring your questions, bring your WHOLE self and know that you are loved, just as you are. No exceptions.

Whether you have gone to church since you were a child, or you are questioning everything. No matter who you are or what you have done, Christus Rex clings to God’s promise of grace for all people.

Service

Christus Rex is a community that takes seriously our call to do justice, love kindness and walk humbly (Micah 6:8) as people of faith. Every month we have many opportunities to join us in service projects – from serving at the food pantry, serving a meal at the Mission, to playing games with residents at Edgewood Vista… join us!

Today, the University of North Dakota rests on the ancestral lands of the Pembina and Red Lake Bands of Ojibwe and the Dakota Oyate – presently existing as composite parts of the Red Lake, Turtle Mountain, White Earth Bands, and the Dakota Tribes of Minnesota and North Dakota.

We acknowledge the people who resided here for generations and recognize that the spirit of the Ojibwe and Oyate people permeates this land. As a university community, we will continue to build upon our relations with the First Nations of the State of North Dakota – the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation, Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Nation, Spirit Lake Nation, Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, and Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians.
